Loxahatchee is a fantastic nature preserve. The abundance of wildlife is impressive. This property is owned by the state of Florida, though it is leased long term by the Federal Government. This is where on any day, one can count on spotting wild Gators living in their element. Arthur R. Marshall is a part of the River of Grass or Everglades.

The reserve is enjoyed by all. Some places are but short walks. You can drive on the pavement to various parts of the refuge. Trails are both wooden walkways whom even those who are handicapped to the fit, any level will enjoy. The enclosed walkways have signs along the way telling of what you see, and it's history. Then to dirt roads which encircle parts of the park. You can rent or bring a canoe or kayak and boat. The breathtaking beauty is found down every path. I suggest that you stop at the welcome center which is located just past the small entrance building. Upon paying your entrance fee to take an immediate right. Their volunteers will help you with everything from seasonal suggestions and a map. They have a wealth of information and can tell you what visitors are reporting throughout the oasis in the midst of the suburban sea,.

If you choose, while just on the edge of the reserve, a dirt road runs along the C-14 canal which is almost a guarantee to seeing gators. I suggest if this is your first visit, bring a camera as you won't be disappointed. Leave everything as you have found it, taken nothing away. Be quiet and listen, look all around. I've seen people on their phones who report nothing, to others pointing the way to a magnificent spot where wildlife has congregated. This describes a recent experience, on the same day and trail.

As people as they pass going in the other direction to what they have seen as they are often the best guides. That is unless it's someone jabbering away on the phone or looking down and playing a game, rule them out.

Loxahache is a federally run experimental area divided up in many sections. This allows researchers to change the environment in some of the areas predicting what will happen to the Everglades if these changes come through.
The area is a magnet for wildlife of many kinds. The birds are the most visible and they attract many birdwatchers who will find an abundance of species.

We got to see George L. and one of the smaller alligators twice. Lots of people are fishing and it seems that the gators will come by any catch and see if it is worth their time to grab it before you do!

Canoes were available for rent, but we walked around and took the dirt road along the side of the water. Lots to see, if we would have brought more water with us it would’ve been a great time to get out on the boats. Speaking to folks, there are so many bass this time of year he was pulling in 10 to 20 per hour on a regular basis.

One of Boynton's great hidden gems. Always nice to just get away from the city and breathe some natural air surrounded by beautiful cypress trees.

Don't miss the visitor center's night sounds of the Everglades experience!!!
